Character Role Analysis

Dana-Kevin

Dana and Kevin are similar in a lot of ways but different in others. For instance, Kevin is a white man and therefore gets treated very differently when he and Dana travel back in time together. He poses as Dana's master in order to protect her, but Dana can't help but resent him for being white in a society that privileges his race so much. Half the time, Kevin tries to apologize. The other half, he says it's not his fault he's white and he refuses to hear Dana's criticism. That said, Kevin is also the one who tells Dana to ends things once and for all by killing Rufus. This killer instinct is something that Dana has lacked for much of the book. But in the end she listens and kills Rufus with a knife.
