Character Role Analysis

Deryn Sharp

Really, do you want to be the person to try to shift Deryn out of the driver's seat? If so, we wish you the best of luck. After all, half the chapters focus on Deryn, her experiences, and her point of view, so we've got a major argument for Deryn Sharp as protagonist. Convincing us that she's not a leading lady will be just about as easy as convincing her that girls belong safe at home. We're listing her first because her ship is the title character, she's not the only main character around.

His Serene Highness, Prince Aleksander of Hohenberg

Hold onto your walkers, because Alek is also a strong contender for the role of the main character, and he certainly isn't used to yielding to anyone. Half of the chapters focus on Alek, making him a strong contender for head honcho of our hearts as we read. What's really going on here though, is that we've got a book with two main characters, so they're just going to have to be okay with sharing the stage. Don't worry, we've got enough pep in our hearts to cheer for both of them until the end.
