Ligeia Questions

Bring on the tough stuff - there’s not just one right answer.

  1. The narrator tells us that he watched Lady Rowena transform into Ligeia. Is there any reason why we shouldn't believe him?
  2. The first published version of "Ligeia" didn't include the "The Conqueror Worm." Does the poem add anything special to the story, or does it simply help reinforce a theme?
  3. On the other hand, could the story even exist without the (made-up) Joseph Glanvill quote?
  4. We know almost nothing about Lady Rowena. That said, are there any indications as to why the narrator married her in the first place?
