A Maat is an under officer (junior officer) in the Bundeswehr or the German Navy. It doesn't come from the Egyptian word for truth, though. Maat means "comrade" in Low German. There are eight different ranks of 'em. (Source.)

Maat is the name of a very popular soap opera on Pakistan's Hum TV network. (But don't get confused: it's not the Egyptian goddess, but an Urdu word that means "Defeat.")
