The Once and Future King Book 4, Chapter 2 Summary

  • Now, the other three bros join Agravaine and Mordred.
  • Gawain, Gareth, and Gaheris have been out hawking, and Gareth is excited about this one falcon he has, which he's thinking of calling "Lancelotta," after his best friend and father figure.
  • Agravaine gets all snotty and says, "Better make it Guen," and Gawain tells him to shut his filthy mouth.
  • The brothers erupt in a mini-tussle, Gawain arguing that they should keep their mouths shut (even if it's the truth) and be decent, while Agravaine and Mordred bring up the whole kidnapped grandmother and attempted drowning incidents. Gaheris just wishes they would all stop whining.
  • Mordred announces that he and Agravaine are going to go to Arthur and ask him about Lancelot and Guenever in open court.
  • Gawain ends up so mad he takes a swing at Mordred.
  • And then all hell breaks loose, and the entire clan is fighting uncontrollably like they did when they were boys.
  • Gawain almost kills Agravaine, but Gaheris catches his hand and stops the deadly blow.
  • Right about now, the King enters, so they act like nothing much is going on. Nothing to see here, nope, nothing at all, Arthur!
  • Arthur's now looking pretty rough. He's an old man, and it shows.
  • The first thing he does when he walks in is to kiss Mordred. Aw!
