- Linus Larrabee becomes the head of the Larrabee family fortune, because he's ruthless and likes to work all the time, and his brother doesn't.
- Linus saves Sabrina from poisoning herself with carbon monoxide on the day before she goes off to Paris.
- Matchmaker Linus sets up a marriage between his wastrel brother David and Elizabeth Tyson, heir to a sugar cane fortune. Linus plans to use sugar cane to make plastic (not very likely, but this is a fairy tale, sort of).
- Sabrina comes back from Paris, and David falls in love with her, threatening Linus' plan to marry him to Elizabeth.
- Linus arranges for David to injure himself by sitting on champagne glasses; then he romances Sabrina himself.
- Sabrina does fall in love with Linus; Linus, to his surprise, falls in love right back.
- Linus originally intended to put Sabrina on a boat to Paris, claim he was going, back out at the last moment, and with her out of the way, push through with David's wedding and business deal.
