Sample of Related History & Literature on Shmoop

  1. Esperanza Rising
If you want to talk more with your class about hard work and gardening on a mega level, then you might want to read Esperanza Rising. Esperanza's story also dives deep into the immigration experience, exploring what it means to leave everything behind and move to a new country. If Seedfolks is an overview of this experience (due to having so many characters), consider this book a case study.

  2. Fences
Father-son relationships are important in Seedfolks, and so is race. If you want to really hone in on these subjects—and maybe even put on a performance—Fences just might be the play for you and your class.
