The Crew

Character Analysis

The workers give it to us for real, no holding back. They might be lower class than the Pembertons, but they're no fools—in fact, they completely understand the corruption and greed all around them.

McIntyre is always spouting off religious maxims, like "I think this is what the end of the world will be like" (35.43), and "The only signs you need to follow is in the Bible" (5.10). It seems like the workers have to cling to what they believe in order to go to work every day. They don't like that the Pembertons kill anyone who crosses them—heck, they hate it—but it's tough to find work and they need to support their own families. In other words, they are caught between a rock and a hard place. But if you're ever not sure what's up with the rich folks, you can rely on these guys to call a spade a spade.
