• The Big Lebowski is visited by The Dude, who wants to be compensated for his soiled rug.
• The Big Lebowski's wife, Bunny, goes missing, and he gets a ransom note from the supposed kidnappers. He doesn't really care if she lives or dies.
• The Big Lebowski steals money from his former wife's charitable foundation, supposedly to pay for Bunny's ransom. Then, he keeps it for himself.
• The Big Lebowski summons The Dude, whom he asks to act as courier for the $1 million the kidnappers are demanding. He then fills a briefcase with phone books and gives it to The Dude, claiming it contains Bunny's $1 million ransom.
• The Big Lebowski gets a pinkie toe in the mail, which he believes to be his wife's. He psyches out The Dude by showing him the toe and claiming that the kidnappers never received their money.
• The Dude and Walter expose the Big Lebowski for the fraud he is.
