Character Analysis
The leader of the German nihilists, Uli is a close friend of Bunny's and a fellow former porn star who went by the screen name Karl Hungus. When Bunny tells him that she's going to be in Palm Springs visiting friends, Uli fakes a kidnapping to extort the Big Lebowski to the tune of $1 million.
The kind of eccentric you'd probably only come across in L.A., Uli was also once part of a German technopop band called Autobahn. Maude owns one of their LPs, Nagelbett ("bed of nails" in German). He's a caricature of a '60s anarchist type whose belief in nothing really masks his desire to get whatever he can for himself.
