Character Analysis
Uncle Julian is Charlotte Singer's brother, who comes to live with Alma's family for a few weeks while doing research for a book on Alberto Giacometti. He's going through a divorce, and so is yet another example in the book of the difficulty of human relationships. He offers Alma both an access point to understand her mother's depression and also encourages her to express herself more fully.
