Half a Riddle
- That night just after lights out, S.Q. comes to fetch the boys. Mr. Curtain wants to see them.
- Mr. Curtain first explains to them that Martina was made an Executive thanks to Reynie, who gave him the advice about handling people he doesn't trust by keeping them close.
- He then informs Reynie and Sticky that since there are now two Messenger spots open, they've been chosen to fill them.
- Back in their room, they share the news with the girls and send a message to Mr. Benedict.
- The message they receive back confuses them, partially because it is cut off early when Mr. Curtain rolls onto the plaza. The part they get says: "With open eyes now you may find / A place you must exit to enter. / Where one—" (25.44). And that's it.
- They're not sure what it means, so they all go to bed. And they're so exhausted, they actually manage to sleep.
