The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge Chapter 1: August 21, 1823 Quotes
How we cite the quotes:
(Part.Chapter.Paragraph)
Quote 1
Ashley was [...] a man with both the vision to bring commerce to the West and the money to make it happen. "Other people's money," as Ashley had called it. (1.1.3)
The American frontier is in the middle of an upheaval, and there's just one cause—the usual one: money. Lots and lots and lots of money. While there have always been explorers and traders diving ever deeper into the American West, they've never had so much cash invested in their operations. As it happens, that's a mixed blessing.
Quote 2
God had placed him in a garden of infinite bounty, a Land of Goshen in which any man could prosper if only he had the courage and the fortitude to try. (1.1.20)
Although we'll be focusing on Hugh Glass for the bulk of this section, it's worth noting that he's not the only one with oodles of determination in The Revenant. William Ashley has plenty of persistence, too, the only difference being that his only goal is to make as much cash as possible.
