Danny (Danny Lloyd)’s Timeline and Summary
- We first meet Danny when he's sitting at the kitchen table with his mom and talking about how they will move into the Overlook Hotel for the winter. Danny seems okay with the move, while his imaginary friend Tony isn't so hot on the idea. When asked why he doesn't want to go, Tony won't say.
- The next time we see Danny, he's chatting with Tony at the bathroom mirror.
- He asks Tony why he doesn't want to go to the Overlook, and Tony answers by showing Danny a horrible image of blood pouring out of an elevator. Danny blacks out and wakes up in bed with a doctor over him.
- The doctor asks him about Tony, but Danny won't talk about him because apparently, Tony doesn't want him to.
- Danny heads off to the Overlook Hotel with his parents. When he gets there, he meets old Mr. Hallorann, who quickly realizes that he and Danny can communicate using only their minds because they both have a special power that Hallorann calls "shining."
- Danny spends a lot of time pedaling his big wheel big around the hotel. But eventually, he runs into a pair of creepy twin sisters who show him a bunch of more horrifying images. Danny covers his eyes and pedals away.
- One day, Danny sneaks into his family's apartment to get his fire engine toy. He finds his dad sitting on the edge of the bed and asks him if he would ever hurt him (Danny) or Wendy. Jack promises him he never would.
- Danny keeps exploring the hotel and seeing creepy images until one day, he visits room 237 and shows up to his mom with deep bruises around his neck. He tells her that a crazy old lady in the room hurt him.
- After Jack has snapped and gone crazy, Danny uses his telepathic powers to call old Mr. Hallorann to come help him.
- Then he pretty much disappears altogether as his imaginary friend Tony takes over his body and keeps shouting "Redrum!" Wendy realizes that Redrum is murder backwards when she sees the word in a mirror.
- Danny seems to snap out of his trance when his dad comes after him with an axe. He leads his dad into the hotel's hedge maze in a snowstorm and tricks his dad by erasing his footprints.
- He escapes with his mom in a snowcat machine while his dad freezes to death in the hedge maze.
