Wendy (Shelley Duvall)’s Timeline and Summary
- Wendy hangs out at her kitchen with her son Danny, asking him if he's excited about moving to the Overlook Hotel for the winter. But Danny's not so sure.
- After Danny has a blackout episode, Wendy calls a doctor and chats with her about whether there's anything seriously wrong with Danny.
- The doctor doesn't seem to think so, but she becomes concerned when Wendy tells her the story of how her husband Jack once dislocated Danny's arm.
- Wendy hops in the car with Jack and Danny and heads to the Overlook Hotel, feeling a little optimistic. But only a little.
- Once the family gets settled in, Wendy is sad to find Jack snapping at her whenever she tries to encourage him about his writing. She starts spending more time with Danny and leaves Jack alone.
- Wendy gets concerned when Danny starts spending more time speaking to her not as himself, but as his imaginary friend Tony. She takes Danny for long walks outside and through the hotel's hedge maze to pass the time.
- One day, Wendy finds Danny with deep bruises around his neck. She blames Jack for the injuries and decides to keep Danny away from him.
- When Danny tells her that a crazy woman in Room 237 hurt him, Wendy runs to Jack and asks him to check it out. But Jack lies and says that there's nothing there.
- One day, Wendy looks at what Jack has been writing. She finds the phrase "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" over and over.
- Jack jumps out and threatens to bash her head in, so she knocks him out with a bat and locks him in the hotel's food closet. She plans to leave in the snowcat machine, but finds out that Jack has destroyed the engine.
- Wendy wakes from a nap to find her son Danny standing over her with a knife and shouting "Redrum" in Tony's voice. She sees that he has written the word on a door, and when she sees it in the mirror she finds that it spells "Murder."
- At this moment, Jack tries to bust into her room with an axe. Wendy locks herself in the bathroom and sneaks Danny through the window. She can't make it herself, so she stays behind to get killed by Jack.
- Luckily, Mr. Hallorann arrives in a snowcat machine and gets Jack's attention. Jack leaves and Wendy sneaks back out.
- But as she runs around the hotel looking for Danny, she has all kinds of horrifying visions, which include finding Mr. Hallorann's dead body.
- Wendy runs into Danny after Danny has escaped Jack in the hedge maze. They take off in Mr. Hallorann's snowcat machine while Jack freezes to death in the hedge maze.
