Character Analysis
These guys are like the chorus of the play and mostly express the audience's reactions. During Vittoria's courtroom scene, the French Ambassador says that he thinks Vittoria "liv'd ill"; the English Ambassador agrees, though he thinks the cardinal's "too bitter" and that Vittoria "hath a brave spirit." (3.2). Also, the English Ambassador serves as an information tool, explaining how the election of the Pope works in Act IV, Scene 3. He shows up again at the very end, entering with Giovanni and the officers to arrest Lodovico.
