Jack

Jack definitely takes on a bit of a teacher role in his romance with Rose. No, we're not just talking about his teaching her how to "spit like a man"—rather, it's his whole mission to get her to loosen up, stop worrying about conventions and expectations, and, as he would put it, "make it count" ("it" being her life, of course).

He encourages her to stop thinking so much about what she thinks she should be doing or what's proper, inviting her to come dancing below decks.

Slowly, she comes around and gains the courage and confidence to break from her old life—and none of that would have been possible if she hadn't met him.
