  1. Wrinkle it Up
    Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time is all over this book, so it makes sense to use it as a companion read to this one or, at the very least, to go over the main plot points with your students. There are tons of similarities: preteen female heroines, missing dads, strong moms, love, time travel, and lots of close relationships.

  2. Bridge the Genres
    Bridge to Terabithia is a realistic fiction story with a male protagonist told in the third person, but it's super similar because it's heavy in the friendship and loss departments. It's also full of imagination.
