- Jack walks across campus with Murray and they talk about how Jack's doing with his German grammar. The big Hitler conference is coming up and Jack is getting nervous about meeting all the German scholars who'll becoming.
- Murray says he thinks there's something really weird about Jack's German instructor. Jack wants to know what it is, because he often thinks the same thing. Murray says that the instructor looks like the kind of guy who'd find dead bodies erotic. This comment totally ends their conversation.
- That night, the nearby asylum burns down. Jack and Heinrich drive there to watch the flames. Heinrich says it's funny how much everyone wants to look at the flames.
- When Jack gets home that night, he can't stop having visions of Mr. Gray having sex with his wife.
