The Woman in White Part 3, Section 1, Chapter 6 Summary

  • Walter goes to see Mrs. Clements, but he withholds the whole truth from her.
  • He simply says he's concerned for Anne. (Apparently he started watching The Closer and learned how to not spook people you're interrogating.)
  • Mrs. Clements says Anne saw a doctor after leaving Todd's Corner, and he confirmed that Anne was suffering from heart disease and was dying.
  • Anne insisted on going to Hampstead and Mrs. Clements reluctantly agreed.
  • But Fosco found them there.
  • He seemed nice and helpful so Mrs. Clements trusted him. (She apparently never saw an afterschool special about stranger danger.)
  • He even helped the two women get to London and gave Anne some medicine that seemed to help her. (Sounds like he hopped Anne up on amphetamines. What would Walter White say?)
  • Two weeks later Countess Fosco arrived, not giving her name, and escorted the two women to see Laura, who was supposedly in London.
  • Countess Fosco lured Mrs. Clements out of the carriage, and when Mrs. Clements returned, Anne was gone.
  • She hasn't seen Anne since.
