The Bay of Pigs Invasion began on this day in 1961. The American attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro's communist government in Cuba failed in three days and basically just made everything worse between the two nations. An attempt to take out Castro himself with a poisoned wetsuit failed as well. Yes, you read that right: a poisoned wetsuit. The CIA planned to give Castro a wetsuit filled with bacteria and spores that would give him a nasty skin disease, but ultimately scrapped it.
