jul 04 Learn More U.S. Declares Independence
The United States declared its independence on this day in 1776. Kind of. The Continental Congress actually voted to assert independence from Great Britain on July 2nd. Nobody started signing the Declaration of Independence until August, and the last signer didn't slap his name on it until 1781. So what actually happened on the 4th? That's the day two hundred copies of the Declaration were printed and dropped into circulation so everybody could starting getting pumped about America.
