Our Mission

Shmoop means "move something forward a little bit." The phrase reflects our company mission, which is to shine a little light into the dark corners of students' minds. We believe that great and difficult concepts can be explained clearly, succinctly, and with a compelling storyline. In “telling the tale” behind seemingly intangible subjects, we humanize them and make them accessible to everyone.

Sincerely,
The Shmoop Team

Hello!

And I'm here because… Shmoop is my quarterback. It throws me the ball where I need it. I run. It follows my progress. It helps me move down the field when I'm behind by a few points. What's a touchdown in this game? The thick envelope from the college of my dreams. I'm smart enough to know that this is my Super Bowl, and Shmoop is one awesome teammate.
And I'm here because… Shmoop is the competitive edge. I want to give my kid(s) every advantage. It really does take a village. Shmoop is my village. From academic nanny to Big Brother-esque diagnostician. The world is so much more competitive now than it was when I was young. With everyone else using these kinds of tools, I need the biggest hammer I can find. Hello, Shmoop.
And I'm here because… Shmoop is my partner. It's next to me on the front lines of the classroom. It serves as a Spock-like mind-meld when I have tough teachings to do. It helps motivate my class to ask "why?"…and it makes it easy for me to go the extra mile in assigning the really thought-provoking projects. Those tasks are the reason I became a teacher in the first place.
And I'm here because… Shmoop "is the market." It touches almost all of the high schools in the country. I get a sense for where I fit within the high school realm, and I am willing to help my school or district fight for its place in this competitive academic environment. Shmoop supports my teachers in their classrooms and my students in their journeys to college, and that's what I care about.
