Ambulance Chaser

A lawyer of low ethical or moral standing. Someone who waits around in the noise of the sirens following car accidents, hoping to find clients who will sue...somebody. The image implies a lawyer chasing around after ambulances, looking to find people they can turn into suers (which, have you ever noticed, sounds a lot like "sewers?").

These lawyers exist all over Wall Street as well. When a stock goes down, they sue, hoping for "ransom money" from companies held hostage by a defendant-favorable court system. Anyone can sue anyone in this country and most large corporations just resign themselves to paying out a few nuisance dollars to make the case go away.

Some jurisdictions are more friendly to ambulance chasers than others. For instance, California is distinctively on the side of the suer, making it very expensive for companies to do business in The Golden State. In Texas, meanwhile, if it is determined that your lawsuit was needless or made up or just oh-so-wrong, those you sued wrongly can (and usually do) come after the suer for court costs, lawyer bills and damage. So how many frivolous lawsuits do you think happen in Texas? Yeah. these ambulance chasers hate Texas.
