Source: The Dalai Lama's visit to Capitol Hill

Speaker: Dalai Lama

Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.

Context

This line was spoken by the Dalai Lama on his visit to Capitol Hill (Mar. 7, 2014).

The Dalai Lama, or to be more specific His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet (does he ever go by an acronym like HHTFDLOT or HH14DLT?), was welcomed to Capitol Hill in Washington, DC on March 7, 2014. He read some verses and made everyone feel at peace, a rare feeling on the floor of the U.S. Senate. Later that day, Senate Leader Harry Reid quoted the Dalai Lama as saying, "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." Yet another lesson the U.S. government would do well to learn.

Where you've heard it

You've heard this if someone is trying to tell you, in a nice way, to stop being a jerk.

If you need to be reminded of this wisdom, you can stick the quote to your wall in one of 22 different colors. Kindness should always be color coordinated.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

While you could shorten it to just "Be kind," this quote has its heart in the right place.
