"Can you feel the love tonight?"

Can you feel the love tonight?
The peace the evening brings
The world, for once, in perfect harmony
With all its living things

Context

This line is from the song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" by Elton John and Tim Rice from the movie The Lion King (1994).

This song pops up about midway through the movie when an adult Simba runs into his childhood friend, Nala, as he's hiding out with Timon and Pumbaa in the jungle. The two lions slip away to snuggle as this über romantic song, performed by Kristle Edwards in the film, plays over them. (The popular Elton John version plays during the credits.) Can you feel the love tonight? We can.

It's clear that Simba and Nala are totally gonna fall in love and it's a beautiful thing. The world is at peace and everything is good. Lion sexy times are coming for sure. We just know it.

Where you've heard it

Anytime love is in the air is the perfect time to break out this sweet, swoony gem of a verse.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Love isn't pretentious. Even if you're the only one feeling it. Pretty soon everyone in the room will be joining along if you start singing these verses at your next get together.
