Speaker: Tess McGill

I have a head for business and a bod for sin.

Context

This line is spoken by Tess McGill, played by Melanie Griffith, in the film Working Girl, directed by Mike Nichols (1988).

Working Girl is a film all about working your way to the top. But for Tess McGill, a mere secretary at a financial firm, moving up the totem pole isn't so easy.

Luckily for us, Tess McGill is one intriguing gal. Not only is she a lot smarter than she seems, but she's very audacious. So when her boss gets in an accident and asks Tess to take over for a little while, you know something juicy is going to happen.

In an attempt to pitch an idea to executive Jack Trainer (played by Harrison Ford), an intoxicated Tess goes to a cocktail party and begins to talk to him. See, she has an idea that can get her to the top—she just needs to run it by the right person first.

So when Jack shows some hesitation concerning Tess's idea, she throws out the beautiful line, "I have a head for business and a bod for sin. Is there anything wrong with that?" Not many people can pull off this line, but you can't blame a girl for trying.

Come on, he's Han Solo.

Where you've heard it

From that kid at work that's trying a little too hard to impress his coworkers. It usually doesn't go over as well as it did in the movie, and just makes everything a bit awkward.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Psh, come one. You'd pretty much be bragging about being a genius and a supermodel if you tried this one. And please, no one says "bod" anymore.
