Source: Frankenstein

Speaker: Dr. Henry Frankenstein

He's alive! Alive!

Context

This misquoted line is spoken by Dr. Henry Frankenstein, played by Colin Clive, in the film Frankenstein, directed by James Whale (1931).

Basically everyone knows the story of Frankenstein. Whether the mad scientist's name is Victor Frankenstein, like in the novel, or Henry Frankenstein, like in the 1931 movie, or Frederick Frankenstein, like in Young Frankenstein, the doctor makes a monster (whose name is not Frankenstein), it goes crazy, screaming happens, etc. etc. etc.

One thing the doctor doesn't do in the original movie is scream, "He's alive! Alive!" Instead, he doesn't apply a gender pronoun to the monster, shouting, "It's alive!"

Where you've heard it

You've heard this if you're a reanimated male corpse who has just been brought to life by a crazy scientist.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Trying to bring the dead back to life is pretty pretentious, and always leads to terrible results!

(This quote actually isn't that bad. Just don't ever call the monster Frankenstein. That's the doctor's name!)
