Source: Malice

Speaker: Dr. Jed Hill

You ask me if I have a God complex. Let me tell you something. I am God.

Context

This line is spoken by Dr. Jed Hill, played by Alec Baldwin, in the movie Malice, directed by Harold Becker (1993).

Malice is a twisty turn-y thriller starring Alec Baldwin as a surgeon with a mega-ego, along with Nicole Kidman and Bill Pullman as the Safians, a supposedly happy newlywed couple. Alec steals the show with this monologue, when he brags about his godlike surgeon powers at a legal deposition. At this point in the movie, we think Baldwin's Dr. Jed has mistakenly made Tracy Safian (Kidman) sterile for no good reason, but this flick has a lot more twists in store.

Where you've heard it

Maybe you saw Alec Baldwin say it in the original movie after you decided to go retro and dig into your parents' VHS collection. What's far more likely is that you saw a reference to this line on the episode of 30 Rock called "St. Valentine's Day," where Alec Baldwin spoofs his own performance. The line also got spoofed on the animated show Drawn Together.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

If you say this in all seriousness, you will have reached the pinnacle of all pretentiousness. So there's something to aim for.
