Source: "Kiss"

Author: Prince

I just want your extra time and your...kiss.

Context

This line was written and sung by Prince in the song "Kiss," from the album Parade (1986).

With the help of a funky guitar line, Prince tells the world that he doesn't care about looks, astrological signs, or anything external when it comes to loving someone. He just wants a little alone time with his special person, and a kiss.

And this wide-open approach to romance made "Kiss" a huge hit in the U.S. charts, and the song was nominated for two Grammys.

As long as you give Prince a little bit of your time and love him back, he will love you no matter what you look like on the outside. (Even though Prince in real life mostly dated models and actresses.)

It's the thought that counts, right?

Where you've heard it

It's kind of sad, but after Prince's passing in 2016, his music has made a comeback in a big way, along with several remixes of this song.

Additional Notable References:

  • Ellen DeGeneres paid tribute to Prince after his passing by airing a clip of him as a guest on her show's first season in 2003, where he performed "Kiss."
  • A British band called Age of Chance recorded a very bizarre cover of "Kiss" in 1986.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Public professions of love are a little annoying, but quoting one of Prince's most romantic songs takes a bit of the sting off.
