I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!

Context

This line is spoken by The Wicked Witch of the West, played by Margaret Hamilton, in the film The Wizard of Oz, directed by Victor Fleming (1939).

In The Wizard of Oz, the main character, Dorothy, makes quite an entrance into the Land of Oz. She's inside her house, being swept around by a tornado, when it drops right on top of the Wicked Witch of the East.

Boom. Headshot.

Well, it turns out that the Wicked Witch of the West isn't too happy about Dorothy smashing the Wicked Witch of the East with a house for some reason. Dorothy's all like, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to, but that isn't cutting it with the Wicked Witch of the West. She is pretty ticked.

To make matters worse, when the Good Witch of the North reminds the Wicked Witch that the super fashionable and super powerful ruby slippers are still on the dead witch's feet and the Wicked Witch goes to grab them, the slippers disappear and reappear on Dorothy's feet. Oh boy.

Seeing that she's already livid at Dorothy for killing the Wicked Witch of the East, the Wicked Witch of the West has a bit of a meltdown. If accidentally killing someone isn't enough, stealing ruby slippers is, and the Witch tells Dorothy she's gonna get it someday—and her little dog too, just for good measure.

But at least the Witch was nice enough to call Dorothy pretty. That's something, isn't it?

Where you've heard it

You've probably heard this from someone you've wronged, like if you stole their shoes or smashed their friend with your house. This statement is also frequently accompanied with a wagging, crooked finger pointing your way.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

This could be a nice little line to throw out at the perfect time for a great comeback. Unless you actually mean it. Then it might be a problem. But hey, maybe you're just the Wicked Witch of the Party.
