Speaker: Buster Bluth

"I'm a monster!"

I'm a monster!

Context

This line is spoken by Buster Bluth, played by Tony Hale, in the TV show Arrested Development (2005).

As Buster is frolicking in the ocean before leaving for the Army, his left hand is bitten off by a blood-thirsty, yellow bow-tie wearing seal that his magician brother Gob released into the ocean.

Seriously. We couldn't make up that sentence if we tried.

He's fitted with a metal hook prosthetic and sent home. Once there, he forgets he's wearing it and gives his uncle Oscar a massage, immediately impaling his shoulder. After noticing what he's done, he screams "I'm a monster!" and goes on a rampage, trashing his mother's apartment.

That's your handy encapsulation of this quote.

Where you've heard it

You'll hear this quote on any episode of Arrested Development where Buster feels like his hook has destroyed his humanity. Most other hook-handed characters feel little remorse for their monstrous actions (we're lookin' at you, Captain Hook).

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Anyone who quotes Arrested Development is going to come off as a little smug. And yes, we're guilty of it, too.
