"Jesus wept."

Jesus wept.

Context

When Mary shows Jesus the tomb of Lazarus (one of his BFFs), Jesus breaks down.

These tears are meant to show us that Jesus is fully human. He cries. He bleeds. He even tweets.

Where you've heard it

You're looking at shortest verse in the King James Version of the Bible—a verse that remains basically the same across dozens of translations (which, BTW, isn't super common).

It shows us Jesus' humanity and his sympathy for mankind. And, uh, it's also sometimes used as a mild expletive.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Nope.
