"That's when you know you've found somebody really special. When you can just…comfortably share silence."

That's when you know you've found somebody really special. When you can just...comfortably share silence.

Context

This line was spoken by Mia Wallace (played by Uma Thurman) in Pulp Fiction, directed by Quentin Tarantino (1994).

The crime lord and shiny briefcase-owner Marsellus Wallace doesn't have time to spend time with his wife, the beautiful and lively Mia Wallace. This is why he gets one of his men, Vincent Vega (played by John Travolta) to show her a good time.

Most of Pulp Fiction is filled with rapid fire conversations about Bible verses, French burgers, five dollar milkshakes, and other random topics, but Mia says that it's important to enjoy the silence. And it is totally okay to just chill out and be quiet with someone you care about for a few minutes. Except, maybe, if you're talking about your husband's employee.

Where you've heard it

You've heard this line from your "cool" indie film-loving friend, who knows more lines from Pulp Fiction than anyone really should.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

It's not horribly pretentious and there is some truth in it, but it just seems like an odd choice of quote for a dinner party.
