Speaker: Paul McCartney

"Maybe I'm amazed at the way you love me all the time."

Maybe I'm amazed at the way you love me all the time.
Maybe I'm afraid of the way I love you.
Maybe I'm amazed at the way you pulled me out of time and hung me on a line.
Maybe I'm amazed at the way I really need you.

Context

This line was written and sung by Paul McCartney in the song "Maybe I'm Amazed" from the album McCartney (1970).

The worst part of the Beatles' breakup was the end of possibly the greatest songwriting partnership in music, John Lennon and Paul McCartney. But Paul wrote many excellent songs without John, including the theme song for the James Bond movie Live and Let Die and "Maybe, I'm Amazed" from McCartney, his first album after leaving The Beatles.

McCartney unseated The Beatles' final album Let It Be from the Billboard 200, which is possibly why it wasn't well-received by critics and fans. But no one can really hate "Maybe I'm Amazed," a heartfelt love ballad from Paul to his wife, Linda McCartney, and how she has helped him transition from a member of The Beatles to a solo artist.

Also, Paul played all the instruments on "Maybe I'm Amazed" so the song is a tribute to his songwriting, vocal, and instrumental talent. Nice work, Paul.

Where you've heard it

This song is a great one to play for someone you really care about. It's also really popular at weddings, and for good reason, since Paul and Linda McCartney were happily married for 29 years.
