Oh, my nose!

Context

This line was first said in season four's eighteenth episode of The Brady Bunch, "The Subject Was Noses," by Marcia Brady, played by Maureen McCormick (1969-1974).

It was back in the day, when the name Brady reminded us of the Brady Bunch instead of that good old 6th round draft pick, Tom Brady.

The Brady Bunch was just your typical American family with their crazy hijinks and zany adventures. Well, okay it wasn't totally typical—a widow and a widower marry, combining their two families—but you get the idea.

Marcia Brady, the oldest Brady girl, is hit in the face with a football right before her big date with the boy she likes. When the ball strikes her in the face, she exclaims, "Oh, my nose!" By the next scene, her nose has doubled in size.

That's a pretty powerful football. It must have been inflated all the way.

Where you've heard it

Well, it's a great exclamation to use when you've hurt your nose, so if you hear someone else say this, chances are they just gotten whacked in the honker.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Come on, if this was a pretentious thing to say, phrases like "Hey, what's up?" and "Look out!" would start to look pretentious too. Basically, it's a totally normal thing to say—well, if you just got hit in the nose.
