Speaker: Destiny's Child

"I don't think you ready for this jelly."

I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this
'Cause my body too bootylicious for ya, babe

Context

This line was sung by Destiny's Child in the song "Bootylicious" written by Rob Fusari, Beyoncé Knowles, Falonte Moore, Kelly Rowland, and Stevie Nicks, from the album Survivor (2001).

"Bootylicious" is more than a song about shaking your ample behind. It's a message of empowerment straight from Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams that says it's okay to have a large backside and thighs. Not everyone has to be stick thin. Plus it's still catchy decades later, especially with that guitar riff sample by Stevie Nicks, one of the original rock 'n' roll feminists.

Where you've heard it

You couldn't turn on the radio or television or visit a sporting event in the early 2000s without hearing "Bootylicious." And we wouldn't have it any other way.

Additional Notable References:

  • Destiny's Child had an impromptu reunion at Super Bowl XLVII to perform "Bootylicious."
  • To continue the football theme, the Green Bay Packers performed a bit of "Bootylicious" in Pitch Perfect 2.
