"Sad songs, they say so much."

Turn 'em on, turn 'em on
Turn on those sad songs
When all hope is gone
Why don't you tune in and turn them on
[...]
Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say so much

Context

This line is sung by Elton John in the song "Sad Songs (Say So Much)," written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, from his album Breaking Hearts (1984).

It's okay to be sad. In fact, it can be quite liberating at times, which is probably why this song exists. This song is about listening to old, sad songs on the radio because it's good to know people have gone through the same stuff you're going through. Seems like Sir Elton realized the importance of a good cry.

Where you've heard it

Oddly enough, this song was reworked for an ad campaign for an apparel company in the '80s. Yes, mom jeans are nothing new. The tagline was "Sasson says so much."

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

There's no need to pretend that this isn't totally true. Anyone who doesn't agree doesn't have a soul. Probably.
