"The San Francisco Treat!"

Rice-A-Roni, the San Francisco treat!

Context

This famous line is part of the jingle for Rice-A-Roni.

Back in the 1960s, people were too busy fighting for their rights and rocking out at hippie concerts to cook or find fresh food, so all food came in boxes. One of those famous 60s foods is Rice-A-Roni, and their classic commercial—practically a black-and-white version of the Full House intro—evoked San Francisco sites like steep hills and trolley cars, before introducing the "exciting new side dish": Rice-A-Roni, "the San Francisco treat!"

Where you've heard it

You hear this if you're eating Rice-a-Roni, whether from a box or homemade, or if you're hanging out in San Francisco. Although if you're on Folsom Street, they're probably not talking about dinner.

And since we love puns, if Mitt Romney were to run for president with Condoleezza Rice on the ticket, they'd be Rice-A-Romney.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Rice-A-Roni is not a treat. Rice-A-Roni is what you make when you're too lazy to make dinner.
