Speaker: Alice Cooper

"School's out for summer!"

School's out for summer. School's out forever!

Context

This line is from the song "School's Out" by Alice Cooper (from his album School's Out, 1972).

Alice Cooper, a guy who looks like he could have been classmates with Ozzy Osbourne, looked forward to one moment each year as a child: the last day of school.

But you don't get to be a heavy metal icon by sitting around doing your homework until the last day of school. After Cooper sings "school's out for summer," he follows it up with "school's out forever. School's been blown to pieces."

Yeah, that's taking rebellion too far.

Where you've heard it

This song has obviously been covered on Glee and less obviously used in a school-supply commercial for Staples, in which Alice Cooper's fictional daughter looks like a modern Wednesday Addams.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

School's out for the summer. Hooray! School's out forever? Don't get your hopes up.
