"Sookie."

Sookie... That's an unusual name, Sookie. Is it short for something else?

Context

This line was spoken by Bill Compton (played by Stephen Moyer) in the first episode of True Blood, written by Alan Ball (2008-2014).

Following the tradition of sexy, sympathetic vampires started by Lestat, Spike, and Angel comes Bill Compton, who happens to be 173 years old and still a perfect Southern gentleman. He uses the old fashioned phrase "call on" instead of dating or hooking up when he first chats up Sookie Stackhouse (played by Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress at Merlotte's Bar in Bon Temps, Louisiana.

The two bond as Sookie saves Bill's life from some rotten customers at Merlotte's Bar, where Sookie works and struggles not to read the minds of some truly disgusting folks. When he returns the favor at the beginning of the show's second episode, they begin a star-crossed relationship full of ups, downs, and even some political intrigue. (Like, did you know there was such a thing as a vampire king?)

Anyway, every time Bill says Sookie's name throughout the seven seasons of True Blood, it's a truly memorable combination of accents as English actor Stephen Moyer tries to do his best bayou.

Where you've heard it

Every Bill Compton cosplayer at conventions across the world has to have this impression in their back pocket.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Bill says the word "Sookie" in such a unique way that it's always funny to hear. Make sure your impression is good, though.
