Source: The Big Lebowski

Speaker: The Dude

"I'm the Dude, man."

Nobody calls me Lebowski. You got the wrong guy. I'm the Dude, man.

Context

This line is spoken by The Dude (Jeffrey Lebowski), played by Jeff Bridges, in the film The Big Lebowski, directed by Ethan and Joel Coen (1998).

The Dude needs no introduction, but when a couple of thugs mistake him for a millionaire who owes them money, they break into his apartment, stick his head in the toilet, and ask "Where's the money, Lebowski?"

Not even a swirlie can phase this guy, who calmly tells them, "Nobody calls me Lebowski. You got the wrong guy. I'm the Dude, man."

That solves the identity mix-up.

Where you've heard it

You hear this if you're at Lebowski Fest or, like, you're bowling or something, man.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

The Dude is the opposite of pretentious, man.
