Tin roof...rusted!

Context

This line is from the song "Love Shack" by The B-52's, from the album Cosmic Thing (1989).

The B-52's became the hottest thing in American New Wave music (think Duran Duran without the British accents) when "Love Shack," which is still their best-known single, hit the charts. This funky tune was inspired by an actual cabin near the band's home of Athens, Georgia, where they recorded "Rock Lobster."

Unfortunately, the real Love Shack has since gone up in flames. (Literally.) In case you're wondering, there was indeed a tin roof, and yes, it was rusted. Now, it's just dust and ashes. Speaking of things that have gone up in flames...the band's apostrophe. They changed their name from The B-52's to...The B-52s in 2008, long after this song had peaked.

Wow, things got dark. Here's the original video to cheer you up.

Where you've heard it

Besides in the original song, which is a staple of oldies radio, you might've caught this famous line on Glee, when the kids did their version. Here it is if you purposely avoid that show.

The song was also used on HBO's Looking and that long-running, murder-heavy, former-CBS-staple Cold Case.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Everyone's stayed in a vacation home with a bad roof, so quote away.
