Source: Annie Hall

Speaker: Alvy Singer

Don't worry. We can walk to the curb from here.

Context

This line is spoken by Alvy Singer, played by Woody Allen, in the classic film Annie Hall (directed by Woody Allen, 1977).

Annie Hall's ditzy qualities aren't quite as charming when she's behind the wheel of a ten-ton motor-vehicle of death, swerving all over New York City. Alvy narrowly survives a bumpy ride in the passenger seat—and finds a suspicious sandwich in the cushion along the way—before Annie skids to a stop in the worst parallel parking job since your first day in driver's ed. Alvy staggers from the vehicle, lucky to be alive, and deadpans, "Don't worry, we can walk to the curb from here."

Where you've heard it

You've heard this if you've ever been trapped in a car with Diane Keaton or any other equally bad driver, like Nicole Ritchie or Gary Busey. This scene is even referenced in a blogger's post about parallel parking and how not to to do it.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

After surviving that car ride, he pretty much has a free pass to say whatever he wants.
