"What about love?"

What about love? Don't you want someone to care about you?

Context

This line is from the song "What About Love?" by Heart, from the album Heart (1985).

This lyric might've originally been sung by Canadian rock band Toronto, but it took American rockers, Heart, to make it a hit. Even if you've never heard this song, you can probably tell by this lyric what it's all about. Basically, the speaker is like, "I love you, why don't you know that? Why can't you feel that? Don't you want to be loved?" To which we say, "Maybe, they're just not that into you."

Where you've heard it

Other than whatever soft rock radio station you have come into contact with, the most likely place you've heard this line is in a series of Swiffer commercials. Like this one. Or this one. Oooor this one.

When the Canadian rock band, Toronto, first wrote this line, could they ever have imagined it would reach such greatness?

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

There are lyrics in many other rock power ballads that dwarf this one in terms of pretentiousness.
