Character Analysis
Thomas Rommely is Mary’s husband and Katie’s father. There's really no nice way of putting it: the guy's a miserable jerk. An Austrian immigrant who left his homeland to avoid army service, his hobbies include swearing at his children in a language they don’t understand and finding new things and people to hate. Thomas is chockfull of hatred: just name the nationality, and he'll tell you why he hates it. It's no surprise then when he hates Johnny and doesn’t forgive Katie for marrying him; nor is it a big loss not having him in their lives.
