Lola Quincey Timeline & Summary

Lola, fifteen years old, arrives at the Tallises' house with her two brothers in 1935. She is staying there while her parents work out their divorce.
While at the house, Lola is first assaulted and then raped by Paul Marshall, chocolate salesman and budding millionaire. She lies to protect him, and then allows Briony to convince the police that Robbie Turner was the one who attacked her.
In 1940, just after the start of the war, Lola marries Paul Marshall.
Almost 60 years later, in 1999, Lola is still married to Paul. They are now Lord and Lady Marshall, prominent philanthropists and socialites. They are also very litigious, which means they sue people all the time.
Briony, diagnosed with a fatal disease, sees Paul and Lola briefly and realizes Lola is going to outlive her, which means Briony will not be able to publish her true account of the rape during her own lifetime.
