Nick Adams

The options for protagonist are limited here. Looks like Nick’s our (only) guy. He goes on a journey, he faces challenges and a crisis, he emerges changed, and we relate to him. It’s essentially Hero 101. Oh, and he also appears in other Hemingway stories that have since been dubbed the Nick Adams stories, so he’s just an attention-seeking guy in general.
