Kempe's Son Timeline and Summary

  • Kempe's son is working as a merchant and living with a burgess in Lynn at the opening of Book II.
  • Kempe makes her son promise not to have premarital sex and sort of curses him if he does. He doesn't keep his promise, and he breaks out with a skin disease.
  • Kempe's son loses his job because of his skin issue (the burgess thinks he has leprosy).
  • After recovering, Kempe's meets a girl in Prussia, gets married to her, and has a daughter with her. He returns to England a much wiser and better man.
  • Kempe reveals her spiritual life to her son on this visit. He goes on pilgrimages to atone for his former wild life.
  • Kempe's son's wife wants to meet the fam, so he brings her to England. On that visit, he becomes ill and dies.
