Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal)’s Timeline and Summary

Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal)’s Timeline and Summary

  • Jack falls in love with Ennis Del Mar on Brokeback Mountain.
  • They herd sheep in the daytime and at night, well, when the tent's a rockin'…
  • The next summer, Jack attempts to see Ennis again, but Aguirre, the man who owns all the sheep, will not give Jack a job.
  • Jack returns to Texas to ride rodeo.
  • He occasionally hits on other men in the rodeo, but he has to be careful not to come on too strongly where his advances may not appreciated.
  • Soon, he meets and marries Lureen Newsome. They have one son.
  • Jack later reconnects with Ennis and resumes their long-distance affair.
  • The distance is both physical and emotional. Jack grows frustrated with Ennis's repressed emotions.
  • He often travels to Mexico, where male prostitutes are readily available.
  • Meanwhile, at home, Jack sometimes clashes with his father-in-law.
  • But he tells the old man off at Thanksgiving, and finally gets to carve the turkey himself. (A big deal in Texas.)
  • Soon, Jack breaks it off with Ennis, and starts an affair with a new man in Texas.
  • Off screen, something goes terribly wrong, and Jack dies.
